When will exclusivity go too far? An image that appeared on the Amazon page for the PS3 version of Assassin’s Creed 3 have revealed that the game will contain an extra hour’s worth of gameplay exclusive to Sony’s console users.
Lately we’ve seen a spate of developers taking the greasy dollar from the console manufacturers, most notably being the latest Dawnguard DLC for Skyrim, that was only available on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 for the first 4 weeks. However it seems that Ubisoft are going even further than The Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda when it comes to exclusivity rights.
Completing the Ubisoft/Sony bromance is not only the extra 60 minutes of Assassin’s Creed 3 content, but also an exclusive DLC to be released at the tail end of October, a console bundle that includes an exclusive copy of the game, and a PS Vits port of Assassin’s Creed 3. I’m not even sure if Naughty Dog’s Sony exclusive Uncharted 3 got all this stuff, so Ubisoft are really going for it.

All this Sony love may come as a disappointment to fans of the other platforms Ubisoft intent to also publish the game for Xbox 360, PC, and there’s some talk of the Wii U too. Maybe these platforms will get given their own perks. This disappointing news follows on from the announcement earlier today that Assassin’s Creed 3 will not have a beta test of the multiplayer mode. Let’s hope then that Ubisoft, who have relied for several years on user feedback from their beta tests can iron out any kinks before the game is released on October 31st.
