Assassin’s Creed 3 comes out October 30th, are you ready? If you haven’t played the other Assassin’s Creed games, then chances are you’re not. All of the AC games were fun and enjoyable, but it seems as though the next game is going to triumph over all others. The new game comes with many great additions that promise to make gameplay smoother and assassinations a million times as fun. There are many reasons to get in line for one of the year’s best action/adventure games, here are just five.
To some of you this may be old news, and if you have heard this before, then you are probably already on the pre-order list.
5. The Time-Period
“Finally!” that’s the word that all Assassin’s Creed fans shouted when they heard that we would be in a different time period. I loved the Renaissance (and I’m sure a lot of other people did) but after three games in a row, it got kind of boring. Although Revelations was a change of atmosphere, it didn’t feel all too different. Now, with AC3 turning to the American Revolution, we can finally see a different enemy in an exciting new time period. The Renaissance was a time for invention and arts and thinking (as we saw with Leonardo Da Vinci), but the Revolution was filled with brutal combat, which makes it perfect for an assassin.
With a different time period comes some new historical figures, this game just so happens to call upon America’s founding fathers. The game’s main character (Connor Kenway) will be meeting people such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. I can’t wait to see where the time and the characters take us. I can’ wait to live out the 1700′s in such a fun and violent way.
4. The Weapons
An assassin requires on his weapons, most of all their signature hidden blade. We have seen modifications to the blade in the past, such as a hidden gun or the hookblade. Now, AC3 will introduce the hidden blade “dagger”, it allows the blade to swivel out and become a dagger for combat. It also allows the gamer to use that feature to dual wield weapons. We can now grab the tomahawk (another exciting new weapon) and pull the dagger out in the other hand.
This game also gives us access to dual wield flint-lock pistols. If that wasn’t enough firepower for you, then you’ll be excited to hear that we also get a musket at our disposal. On top of all that we get to use a bow and arrow and get to play around with the new “grapple rope”. The rope springs out of Connor’s hands and can pull enemies closer to him. It becomes ideal for quick combat and makes ariel assassinations a lot more fun. I can’t wait to get my hands on these new weapons.
3. The Wilderness
If you played Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, then you know how huge Rome was. This game promises to provide us with an even bigger Frontier area. It will be 1.5 the size of Rome and there are still more areas in the game. We will get to play in Boston, New York and other important historical sites.
With the newly added wilderness, we gain the ability to do some cool Red Dead Redemption-like stuff. We can kill animals and sell their skins or simply go exploring. With Connor’s new tree-climbing ability, we can get across this huge area very quickly. Canoeing seems to be another option (as seen in the picture above).
We will get to see some random events, such as an encounter with a bear or walk into a group of enemies trying to walk around. There will never be a lack of things to do in the wilderness of AC3.
Connor (who is part Native American) should be able to traverse his terrain with ease, and I can’t wait to start playing as him in the world.
2. Naval Battles
This game has added a completely new form of gameplay for the AC universe. Gamers will now have the ability to captain their very own ship. This dynamic will be used to encourage exploration outside of the wilderness and will allow us to fight off pirates and other enemies. One of those enemies being the weather. It can change from sunny and happy to a dark thunderstorm with swirling water-spouts and deadly currents. it’s up to us to steer our ship in the right direction. We are put in charge of our own crew and get to don a tri-corner cap as their menacing captain.
We can also board other ships during naval combat. Are the enemies dogging every cannon ball you can send at them? Then we can grab our axe and jump onto their boat and do what assassin’s do best.
Although it’s not certain why or how Connor obtained a ship and a crew, but I don’t care as long as I get to play around with this new fun part of the AC experience.
1. Connor Kenway
After three games of Ezioit’s about time for a change. I love Ezio as a character and I am not saying that I am getting tired of him, but it will be nice to see a new assassin. We didn’t really get to know Altair’s backstory and character all to well, but we did get to live through most of Ezio’s life, which makes him an easy favorite. But, Ac3 might just change that. We will get to play through some of Connor’s teen years and watch him age as we play through the revolution.
Connor promises to be a great lead character because of his rich story and his integration into the revolution’s plot. He is half Native American and Half British, which makes choosing a side very difficult for him. This character seems to have a darker personality then Ezio, which is perfect for a revolutionary assassin.
I can’t wait to play as Connor in the new game, he will bring new weapons, gameplay and exciting new areas to play in. I have my name on the pre-order list, do you?
